Manifesto in view of the terrorist attacks in Madrid

Udalbiltza - 2004/03/11

Julian EIZMENDI, Chairman of UDALBILTZA and Mayor of Azpeitia, on behalf of all the municipally-elected councillors who are working in favour of our Institution and its objectives, wishes to state the following in view of the terrorist attack in Madrid this morning:

1. - UDALBILTZA firmly condemns the terrorist attack this morning in Madrid At the same time, it wishes to express its sorrow, closeness to and solidarity with all those affected by this massacre and their family members, as well as the people of Madrid in general.

2. - It would seem that ETA has been responsible for this terrorist attack; should this not be the case, ETA must immediately deny its involvement. We demand a response from ETA.

3. - ETA does not represent Euskal Herria; it does not represent Basque men and women. Euskal Herria does not want ETA and calls for its disbandment.

4. - If ETA insists on pursuing its path, we should like to state loudly and clearly that this is against Euskal Herria. If it intends to continue, we demand that it remove the terms `Euskadi´ and `Askatasuna´ (`Freedom´) from its initials.

5. - Euskal Herria and Basque men and women are the only ones who shall decide as to their future, by respecting the human rights of all persons freely and exclusively through democratically means.

In Euskal Herria, on the 11th of March 2004
