Shepherds' meet in Burguete

Numerous shepherds and their four-legged friends came from all around the Basque Country to Auritz-Burguete in an event held to honour those who emigrated west during the twentieth century. Hundreds of shepherds and their companions made their way to Auritz-Burguete on Sunday to participate in the fourth edition of `Ameriketako Artzain Eguna´, a day in which shepherds who emigrated to the States during the last century come together.

Laura Igantzi, who led the organisation and was one of the key promoters of the event, was full of praise for the encounter, the aim of which is to `bring together those shepherds, men and women, who remember their experiences from that era and pay homage to them; I think we can say that that aim has been more than achieved.´
