Udalbiltza appeals to all Basques to actively participate in the NAFARROA OINEZ´O3

Hezkuntza / Nafarroa - 2003/10/17

UDALBILTZA, in addition to supporting the annual ikastola fiesta in Nafarroa, is appealing to the citizens of Euskal Herria to take part in an active and cheerful way in this year’s NAFARROA OINEZ 2003, which is to be held on the 19th of October in Lumbier, in so doing confirming and strengthening their commitment in favour of Euskera. That is the best response that we can give to the current situation. Making a firm commitment to Euskera, defending our language and using it in all walks of our life.

Euskera is a cultural treasure and the linguistic heritage of all citizens of Euskal Herria and, by extension, of all Europe. All languages are a sign of cultural plurality. We ask all social, cultural and economic agents, all institutions, especially the Autonomous Government of Navarra, and all political parties, to assume their responsibility in defending the right of citizens of Euskal Herria to know and use Euskera and to take the necessary steps in the interests of that objective; to take real steps towards the normalization of Euskera, to guarantee its learning and promote its use. Euskera belongs to all and it is the duty of all of us to assume the tasks of safeguarding, promoting and developing it.

It should also be remembered that the Institution has offered the Arangoiti Ikastola of Lumbier aid amounting to180, 300 euros and that next Sunday, the members of the executive board of UDALBILTZA Jose Luis Etxegarai and José Mº Agirre will be present as witnesses to the municipal solidarity of Euskal Herria with Euskera.

In Pamplona, on the 17th of October 2003
