Numerous shepherds and their four-legged friends came from all around the Basque Country to Auritz-Burguete in an event held to honour those who emigrated west during the twentieth century. Hundreds of shepherds and their companions made their way to Auritz-Burguete on Sunday to participate in the fourth edition of `Ameriketako Artzain Eguna�, a day in which shepherds who emigrated to the States during the last century come together.

In a surprise move an alternative multilingualism report was passed at Plenary in the European Parliament today led by a coalition of MEPs, Maria Badia (PES), Ignasi Guardans (ALDE) and Mikel Irujo (EFA-Greens), and backed by the language NGO EBLUL. The alternative resolution overturned the controversial report tabled by Vasco Graca Moura (EPP), winning by 335 votes to 279 with 69 abstentions.

Basque nationalist party PNV won 30 seats, followed by PSE 24, PP 13, Aralar 4, EA 2, EB 1 and UPyD 1. There was a 34.12 percent rate of non-participation and 8,84 percent of the votes were not valid.

The Basque Government has published, through the Department of Culture, the book `To know the Basque Country�, a work that is intented to be used as a manual for immigrants and Diaspora Basques to better know the diverse aspects of the Basque Culture. The book has been published into the principle languages of the locals, immigration, the Diaspora, and for tourism (Basque, Spanish, English, French, Chinese, Arabic, and Romanian) and topics like the culture, language, society, values, institutions, economy, and the political system of government are discussed. The Basque Government has published the first 12,000 copies, but you can also download the whole book from www.euskadi.net. The authors are Ramon Zallo and Mikel Ayuso.

Berlin film 'Ander' attracts sales

Emerging as one of the more fancied titles in this year�s Berlin fest Panorama section, gay Basque drama `Ander� has attracted a flurry of late fest sales interest.

Deals come as `Ander�, the feature debut of Spain�s Roberto Caston, on Saturday took a CICAE prize, awarded by the Paris-based Intl. Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas, for best film in the Panorama.
